2022 Local Elections

The local body elections for the Whangārei District were held on 8 October 2022.

For the 2022 local body elections, Whangārei was divided into five general wards and a Māori ward.

Registered voters elected a Mayor and 13 Councillors who represented the five general wards and one Māori ward - the wards and number of councillors associated with each ward were:

• Bream Bay General Ward (two councillors)
• Hikurangi - Coastal General Ward (two councillors)
• Mangakahia - Maungatapere General Ward (one councillor)
• Whangārei District Māori Ward (two councillors)
• Whangārei Heads General Ward (one councillor)
• Whangārei Urban General Ward (five councillors)
