Paying your land rates

Land rates notices are sent to property owners four times a year.   

There are a number of ways to pay your land rates:

  • Direct debit:  you can authorise us to debit your account on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly basis or when they are due, from your bank account.
  • Online:  pay online with your credit or debit card
  • By phone:  call with your credit or debit card details
  • In person:  come into one of our customer service centres with cash, credit or debit card
  • Other:  pay via internet banking or an international money transfer (for overseas payments).

You are welcome to pay the total year's land rates, but there is no early-bird discount for payment in full.

Direct debit

Direct Debit is our preferred option for land rates payments and is exempt from penalties.

They can be set up to be paid from your bank account, on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

If there are any changes to your land rates charges, these will be automatically adjusted by us and notification sent to you in writing.

You can set up a direct debit with us online.  Please fill in the Direct Debit authorisation form.

Online

Step 1.Have your card available

Pay using a credit or debit card (Visa and Mastercard only). We do not charge a fee for online credit card payments.

Step 2.You'll need your reference

You will need your Property ID number which is on your land rates notice.  

Step 3.Pay online

Once you click on the "Pay online" button you will be redirected to our secure payments website.  

By using our payment website, you are agreeing to our Online Service Terms and Conditions.

You can pay for one or more land rates at the same time. 

Simply enter the Property ID number and follow the instructions until you get to the shopping cart.  Click ‘Save Cart’ to save the Property ID number.

Click the ‘Land Rates’ link in the left navigation to add another Property ID number.

Continue until all properties (property ID numbers) have been added.

A receipt will be issued after payment.

By phone

Step 1.Have your card available

In-person

Step 1.Bring into us

Bring your land rates notice into one of our Customer Service centres.

You will need your Property ID number which is on your land rates notice.

Step 2.Pay rates

You can pay with cash, Eftpos, Visa or Mastercard. We do not charge a fee if you pay by credit card.

A receipt can be issued upon request.

Other

Internet banking

We are listed as a bill payee with your bank.  Search for "Whangarei District" in the payee list and select one of the payment types.

When making an internet bank payment please use the correct code and reference types.

Overseas customers may wish to send a direct credit from their overseas account to pay land rates.

If you have recently changed your postal address or update your contact details, let us know:

We are only able to process a property owner name change if the name has been legally changed on the Property Title.

If the property owner name has not been changed on the Title through the Land Registry Office, we suggest you contact a lawyer for guidance as we cannot make any amendments.

Once a name change is completed on the property title, a copy must be provided to us for verification and actioning.
