Northland land slips map

Responding to flooding and severe weather over the last year has been expensive. Northland’s local road network suffered approximately $89m worth of damage from at least 10 different significant weather events since July 2022.  

In Whangārei, we've successfully restored the majority of roads and we're now focusing on the rehabilitation of 28 sites, with an estimated cost of around $10 million.  These repairs are expected to take 2 - 3 years to complete.

Road recovery and repair process

This map provides repair details for slips impacting roads maintained by Northland’s three District Councils and caused by the weather events.  It does do not show historic (pre-existing) slips that occurred prior to July 2022. 

The timeframes given are our best estimates based on current evaluations and may change as we complete investigations and finalise designs. The map will be updated if any significant changes occur.

• Q2 (autumn): April – June 2024
• Q3  (winter): July – September 2024
• Q4 (spring): October – December 2024
• Q1 (summer): January – March 2025.
