Tauroa Street before the roadworks.

Tauroa Street, Fairburn Street and Hedley Place intersection in Raumanga are receiving safety upgrades as part of our Slow Streets programme.

These streets have been areas of concern for several years, with residents consistently reaching out to us about vehicles travelling at high speeds on these roads.

Towards the end of 2022, early designs were created and shared with local residents for their input on proposed solutions.

At a later date, these designs underwent a review process to incorporate valuable feedback from the community.

These traffic-calming works have received 100 per cent government funding through the Transport Choices programme, which is designed to create walkable neighbourhoods and support safe, green and healthy travel.

What we are doing in the area

  • Creating safer intersections
  • Installing new raised platforms and speed bumps
  • Improving and renewing footpaths
  • Improving drainage
  • Installing new signage
  • Increasing street lighting

What to expect

Traffic controllers will be on site to assist pedestrians during work hours:

  • Monday to Saturday 7:00am to 6:00pm

There will be some lane closures with temporary traffic signals installed.

Please follow all traffic management signs and instructions from the traffic controllers to ensure your safety and that of our workers.
