Safety improvements on Raurimu Avenue in Onerahi are now complete.

The school crossing has been upgraded to a raised platform, with speed bumps installed on either side to ensure that cars travel at safe speeds for children and pedestrians.

Additionally, several intersections along this road have been enhanced for better safety.

Background of the project

We received a petition signed by more than 220 residents and parents of students at Raurimu Primary School.

We shared proposed designs with the local residents and school community in 2022. These designs were evaluated and revised to incorporate valuable feedback and suggestions from the community.

Water conservation

There are currently no water restrictions in place in Whangārei District.
However, residents in Te Kamo, Hikurangi, Tikipunga, Whau Valley, Three Mile Bush, and Otangarei are asked to reduce water use until February 2025 to allow for repairs on the northern water-supply network.

Investigating options for rating system

We are currently reviewing how rates are calculated to ensure they are still set in the fairest and most equitable way. If changes are proposed, we will seek community input through public consultation early next year. These changes will not impact the total amount of rates we collect, instead they will affect how we work out everyone’s share.
