Construction began in June 2024 on the path and boardwalk connecting the newly constructed Lovers Lane Bridge to the Raumanga Shared Path at Second Ave. The project is now completed.

The path is 4m wide, consistent with the other shared path standards around the city. Together with the boardwalk, it provides a valuable connection between the Avenues and the city centre.

The boardwalk itself is an elevated platform made from fibre-reinforced polyethylene with a balustrade design consistent with the Lovers Lane Bridge.

The adjacent Lovers Lane was also under construction and was completed in mid-November 2024.

The connection into Cafler Park will be completed in November 2024.

Water conservation

There are currently no water restrictions in place in Whangārei District.
However, residents in Te Kamo, Hikurangi, Tikipunga, Whau Valley, Three Mile Bush, and Otangarei are asked to reduce water use until February 2025 to allow for repairs on the northern water-supply network.

Investigating options for rating system

We are currently reviewing how rates are calculated to ensure they are still set in the fairest and most equitable way. If changes are proposed, we will seek community input through public consultation early next year. These changes will not impact the total amount of rates we collect, instead they will affect how we work out everyone’s share.
