Raumanga Scenic Reserve

Raumanga Scenic Reserve is a large suburban park featuring a waterfall, a playground, toilets and access to the Raumanga Shared Path. 

The toilets, playground, picnic tables and the beginning of the Raumanga Shared Path are close to the main entrance on Raumanga Valley Road. 

Beyond the playground, large and leafy mature trees shade grassy areas, and a short easy walking track leads to Raumanga Falls.  

Parking

There is no designated car park, however street parking is available on Raumanga Valley Road near the main entrance.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed off-leash in the grass area west of playground, but must be under control at all times. Dogs are not allowed at the playground. In other parts of the reserve, including the area around the playground and on the shared path, dogs must be on-leash.

Playground

Built and opened at the end of 2024, the new Raumanga Scenic Reserve Playground has activities suitable for all ages and abilities. 

It includes a basketball half-court, picnic tables, children’s play equipment, including nets, climbing frames and balance beams, and an accessible, wheelchair-compatible seesaw next to the paving. 

There are toilets and a drinking fountain nearby, as well as shade structures and picnic tables.

Raumanga Falls

An easy walk, about 10 minutes from the playground, brings you to a cascading 15m waterfall.

The water holes near the path are popular in summer, but please be careful as the rocks can be slippery and steep. We recommend checking for water-quality information before swimming:

The pathway to the falls includes a combination of sealed concrete, gravel and a few short sections of stairs. 

Raumanga Shared Path

The Raumanga Shared Path is an easy route for walking and cycling into the city centre. It starts in the reserve at the bridge over the Raumanga Stream and runs approximately 3km into the Whangārei Central Library on Rust Avenue.
