An application can be made to us for these other types of planning approvals, following the process outlined below. 

  • change or cancellation of a condition of resource consent or consent notice
  • extension to the lapse date of a resource consent
  • a certificate of compliance or existing use
  • change or cancellation of an easement condition, amalgamation condition or amalgamation covenant
  • change to a conservation covenant
  • the formation a right of way.

Gather all supporting information that is required, as listed in the application form. 

Step 2.Email us

Email your completed application form and supporting documents to:

We will check your application is complete before we start assessing it. If your application doesn't include sufficient information, we will return it to you within 10 working days of its receipt. 

Once you have compiled the missing information your application can be re-submitted. 

Step 3.Pay fees 

Once we’ve checked your application is complete, we will send you an invoice.

Resource consent management fees and charges

You can pay the invoice either online, in person or call us with your details. We accept Visa and Mastercard payments via our Contact Centre.

Depending on the complexity of the application, additional fees may also be charged at completion of processing to cover all actual and reasonable costs of processing your application. This may include for example work involved in specialist review of technical reports.

Where the application is more complex or lengthy to process, we may send you an interim invoice.

Step 4.Application processing

Once your advance fee is received your application will be assigned to a planner for processing. The application will be assessed and processed following statutory requirements. During this process the planner may ask for additional information.

Your application may either be approved or declined. 

If your application is declined, you are not able to proceed with your proposal. Depending on the nature of the application, you may be able to appeal our decision.

At any stage you may withdraw your application by advising the processing planner.

Step 5.Receive your decision

We will send you a copy of our decision, including any conditions you need to comply with when carrying out approved work. 

An invoice for any outstanding processing fees will be issued at this time. You may also receive an invoice for costs associated with monitoring any conditions.

Step 6.Start any approved work

Once you receive our decision you can start any approved work but will need to make sure you carry this out in accordance with any conditions.

Approval of a building consent may also be necessary before your start the work.
