Maunu Lawn Cemetery

Maunu Cemetery is 6.5km west of Whangārei on Cemetery Road off State Highway 14 (Whangārei to Dargaville highway).

It is set in over 90 acres of rolling countryside, with beautiful bush clad valleys and pockets of remnant native trees.

The cemetery is maintained to a high standard by our staff, who have an office on site. Visitors are welcome to walk around the grounds and to search for family history information.

Maunu Cemetery is Whangārei's main cemetery and has the capacity for burials, cremations, ash burials, stillborn burials, stillborn memorials and scattering of ashes.

Friends of Maunu Cemetery

Friends of Maunu Cemetery is a group of volunteers. Over the last couple of years, the group has been transforming the Old Portion of Maunu Cemetery into a gardeners’ delight.

The group plants trees, shrubs and flowers around the graves, beautifying the area and enabling the Cemetery Team to greatly reduce the amount of spray required for maintenance. They also tend to the mulching and weeding within the area, enhancing the planting they have done.

Anyone interested in joining the group or giving a few hours of their time every now and then, can turn up to the on Wednesdays at 9:00am or contact the cemetery via email:
