Whangārei Santa Parade

The Whangārei Santa Parade is back for 2024!

The parade will kick off with a brand-new route throughout the city centre. There will also be a Santa's Grotto, and the big man will be available for s-ELF-ies before and after the parade.

We have had participants in the parade such as emergency services, schools, marching groups, motorbikes doing toy runs and more from all ‘walks of life’.

9:30am to 10:30am: Santa's Grotto in Cameron Street Mall

11:00 to 11:30am: Parade

12:00pm to 1:00pm: Selfies with Santa

Parade route:

Spectators will be able to view the parade from both sides of the roads that the parade travels around:

beginning on Alexander Street travelling down Rust Avenue
through the Bank Street / Cameron Street intersection onto Rathbone Street
turning right onto Robert Street
turning right onto John Street
turning right onto Cameron Street towards the shared pathway
parade ending along James Street.

Plan your trip as parking will be limited near the city centre and road closures will be in place.

Consideration of applications will resume in February, but submissions can still be made at any time during this period.

Huitau Pā walkway partial closure

Part of Huitau Pa walkway is closed due to significant erosion. You can still access the track from the parking area, however please do not walk along the cliff and make sure you stay well away from the edge as it is unsafe. Signage is in place.

Summer alcohol licence deadline: Thursday 21 November 2024

The statutory closedown period for processing alcohol licence applications is from 20 December 2024 to 15 January 2025.

To ensure your alcohol licence applications are received and processed before the closedown, we must receive them by Thursday 21 November 2024.

Flush water from taps in the mornings

The Ministry of Health recommends flushing a mugful of water from drinking-water taps each morning to remove any metals that may have dissolved from the plumbing fittings.
Although the health risk is small, this simple precaution is one all households on public and private water supplies should take.
