Dave Culham Drive road safety improvements
- Project typeSafety improvements
- Project value$430,000
- Project schedule6 to 31 January 2025
- Contractor nameWM Construction
We are relocating the existing pedestrian crossing on Dave Culham Drive. We will install the pedestrian crossing to comply with new best practice requirements outlined by Waka Kotahi.
This crossing forms an important link for future cycleways and shared paths. It will create a safe crossing to the Pohe Island Bike Park, Pohe Island Pump Park and the Whangārei BMX Club.
What we are doing
- relocating the existing pedestrian crossing
- extending the road median and installing a new island
- installing some new kerb and channel to improve drainage
- increasing street lighting.
What to expect
Dave Culham Drive will be reduced to one lane during this work. One-way traffic will be able to come across Te Matau a Pohe bridge – from Port Road to Riverside Drive only.
Te Matau a Pohe bridge will continue to operate normally, lowered for road traffic from Port Road most of the time, and lifting on demand for marine traffic.
All traffic travelling into town from Onerahi will need to travel down Riverside Drive (no access to Dave Culham Drive). This will be in place 24/7 for three weeks.
We will try to keep disruption to a minimum. Please allow additional time for travel and follow the signs and detours posted.
Thank you in advance for your patience.
