Book the Town Basin, a District park or a car park

You can book various areas for a festival, concert or music event, carnival or circus, market, fun run / walk, awareness / fundraising event.  

These areas are at the Town Basin, certain parks and reserves and car parks, including:

  • the Canopy bridge
  • Town Basin raised stage
  • Hātea Loop walkway
  • Art Park (Reyburn House Lane)
  • Hīhīaua Peninsula
  • William Fraser Park beside the skatepark
  • Pohe Island beside Camera Obscura
  • Pūtahi Park
  • Mair Park
  • Sherwood Park
  • Cobham Oval car park
  • Finlayson Street car park
  • Pohe Island car park.

If the area you want to book is not listed above, is not a sporting event, and is on a sports park, please use the Application to hold an event or market on Council land below.

You may be required to apply for other permits, depending on what you are selling or providing at your event or market. 

Food sales

If you are having registered commercial food vendors or community fundraisers operating at your event or market, you will need to apply for a licence.

If you are selling alcohol at your event or market, you will need to apply for a Special Licence.  This needs to be submitted 20 working days prior to your event or market.

If you are providing alcohol free of charge, or it is BYO,  you may be required to submit a Notification of Social Event application or apply for a dispensation. You can use our quick online tool to check if you need a special alcohol licence.

You may be required to apply for a temporary road closure. Temporary road closure applications must be received at least 3 months prior to the event.

Step 4.Assessment

Applications will be assessed by the Community Events Coordinator and sent to Council staff for consideration (e.g. Roading, Parks, Health and Bylaws).

Step 5.Receive notification

You will receive notification from us.  

An application may be granted a permit and will be subject to the terms and conditions detailed in the application or it may be refused by us.
