The existing wastewater pipe crossing at Waikaraka Bridge (approximately 50m west of Waikaraka Road) along Whangārei Heads Road is at risk of failure.

The poor condition of the pipe has been exacerbated by a car accident that damaged the pipework and valve. 

Immediate action is required to prevent failure of the wastewater pipe, and potential wastewater discharges into the Waikaraka Stream and Whangārei Harbour.  

What to expect 

While the site and scaffolding is being set up, there will be stop / go traffic control. Once this is set up, both lanes will be open with traffic control in place from time to time.

All lanes will be open after hours and on weekends.
