T2 and a splash of green

With just a coat of green paint, the first stage of Whangārei’s T2 priority lane along Kamo Road and Bank Street, from Moody Avenue to Rose Street, will be a step closer to completion.
The paintwork will start on 19 January 2025 and will take five days, and pedestrian crossings with traffic signals will be installed in coming months.
Residents and businesses along the route will be kept up to date on the next stage of the work, along Kamo Road from Adams Place to the Whau Valley intersection.
T2 lanes are for vehicles carrying two or more people. That includes buses and emergency service vehicles, and cars with two or more occupants. Motorcycles, bicycles and mopeds can also use the lanes.
The aim of T2 lanes is to make the traffic flow more efficiently, providing a smoother, safer and shorter drive-time by encouraging more ride sharing or bus use and reducing the number of cars on the road.
Other steps to increase public transport use include this year’s upgrade of the Rose Street bus terminal in the city, and people’s increased use of the shared path network.
