Our Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy is due for review and we wanted to hear your views on our proposal to readopt it.
Under the Shop Trading Hours Act 1990, a local Easter Sunday trading policy can allow shops to open either district-wide, or in selected parts of the district. A policy cannot require shops to open or specify trading hours or the types of shops that can open.
Without a policy, only some businesses, like dairies, pharmacies, cafes, souvenir shops and garden centres, would be allowed to open on Easter Sunday under current legislation.
Our Policy allows shops in the Whangārei District to open on Easter Sunday if they want to.
The Statement of Proposal sets out what we are proposing and the reasons for it. We recommend you read it in full to understand the context and Council's options after reviewing the Policy.
