Change of dog ownership

Step 1.Gather letter

You will need a signed letter from the previous owner which provides written notice of the ownership change.

The letter should include the Dog ID, which is the animal number shown on the dog registration invoice, and is in the 'WDC ID' column next to the dog's name. This will ensure we identify the correct dog.

If the previous owner is unsure of the Dog ID, they will need to contact us on 09 430 4200 during business hours.

Our business hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday (closed public holidays).

Step 2.Complete application

Fill in our online form and upload the signed letter from the previous owner.

Step 3.Check and update details

We will check your request and update the details in our system.

Step 4.Receive update

You will receive an update to your request via email.

Download, print and both the previous and new owners complete the form.

If the previous owners cannot sign the form, a signed letter from the previous owner is acceptable.
