A new roundabout at Springs Flat Road will provide safer connections to State Highway 1 from Te Kamo and access for future housing planned for Te Kamo East. It will also enable the development of a new supermarket and shopping centre next to the roundabout.

A roundabout at Springs Flat Road has been under consideration for many years, since the development of the Kamo Bypass. Central Government funding has been secured through the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund to help pay for the project.

The project will include:

  • a new roundabout on State Highway 1 with connections to Springs Flat Road and Alcoba Street
  • shared paths on both Springs Flat Road and Alcoba Street
  • a signalised crossing across State Highway 1 to link the shared paths
  • connections to Upper Hatea Loop Path and to the Kamo Shared Path in the future
  • access to a future supermarket and shopping centre development on Springs Flat Road.

The new roundabout will be partially located in an existing flood plain and additional flood storage will be provided to minimise any flood impacts.

Two other related projects are underway to enable more residential housing in the Te Kamo East area: Gillingham Road bridge and Alcoba Street connection.
