Airport Location Study

We have decided to investigate a site at Ruatangata, near Kōkopu Road, as a possible new airport location for our District.

Civic Precinct, Lovers Lane and libraries landscape project

We laid new paving between the Old Library, the Central Library, Te Iwitahi (civic centre) and down Lovers Lane. Now that the paving and bridge are complete, attention is focused on creating a seamless join between them and the park.

Kioreroa Road rising mains replacement

Two old sewer mains carrying wastewater along Kioreroa Road to our District's largest wastewater treatment plant will be replaced over the next seven months.

Kopipi Crescent footpath in Ngunguru

We will be constructing some new footpaths on Kopipi Crescent and Pine Road in Ngunguru, including new kerb and channelling, minor drainage and signage upgrades, new bollards and upgraded playground frontage and a new pedestrian-friendly connection to the Ngunguru Sports Complex.

Locky Dock secure bike parking

Free and secure bike parking is in Whangārei with 15 new Locky Dock bike-parking stations being installed around the city.

Mair Street to Rurumoki Street new stormwater pipeline

This project aims to reduce flooding on Mair Street and neighbouring private properties.

Morningside flood relief

This project aims to significantly reduce flooding in the low-lying areas around Kaka Street. Stage 1 of the project will include the closure of the footbridge and path between Rawhiti Street and Porowini Avenue from the end of January 2025 for approximately six months.

Murdoch Crescent road safety improvements

Murdoch Crescent in Raumanga is receiving road safety improvements to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Some drainage work was completed in August 2023 and rest of the works will be completed by early 2025.

New water storage tank at Dip Road, Te Kamo

We are building a new water storage tank at Dip Road. It will be installed near the existing tank to increase resilience and double the stored water supply.

Parua Bay Wastewater Scheme

We are working on three workstreams aimed at improving the Whangārei Heads and Parua Bay wastewater systems following overflows from the wastewater storage tank at Parua Bay.

Pop-up pump track

Whangārei has a new pop-up pump track, thanks to funding from the Waka Kotahi Transport Choices programme. The first home for the track will be Korau Road Reserve in Tikipunga. The track will stay there for around six months before moving somewhere new.
