Visit the art museum for touring and internally-curated exhibitions designed to showcase the full diversity of creative art practice in Northland and New Zealand.

The art museum fulfils a broad role:

  • through researching and documenting the artists of the region
  • telling the story of the district through its permanent collection
  • the ongoing involvement of schools and educational institutions.

The Whangārei Art Museum is funded by Whangarei District Council.

Get a mobility scooter

You can borrow a mobility scooter for free from Whangārei Art Museum to get around the Town Basin and the Loop. It has enough power to complete the entire loop, and visit all the experiences the area has to offer.

It was donated to our District by NorthAble in 2014.

To use the scooter, call the Art Museum between 10:00am and 4:00pm seven days a week or call in as you are passing.
