Health licences

These business types are required to obtain a health licence from Council:

  • hairdressers
  • funeral homes
  • offensive trades (such as septic tank and grease trap cleaning)
  • camping grounds (not providing food).

Hairdressers

To use any premises as a hairdressing business, you must be registered with Council and hold a current certificate of registration and comply with the Health (Hairdressers) Regulations 1980. This applies whether you are working from a commercial premises or your home.

A hairdressers licence is renewable on an annual basis, and a renewal reminder letter will be sent out prior to the required renewal date.

Camping Grounds

In accordance with the Camping Ground Regulations 1985,  if you operate a Camping Ground, you must be registered with the Council.

A camping ground licence is renewable on an annual basis, and a renewal reminder letter will be sent out prior to the required renewal date.

Camping grounds preparing and selling food products to the public are also required to register under The Food Act 2014.

Mortuaries and funeral directors

Mortuaries and funeral director businesses must be registered and undergo inspection on an annual basis.

Beauty Therapy, Tattooing and Piercing businesses

Beauty Therapy, Tattooing and Piercing businesses do not need to register in Whangārei. This may change in future.

If you are a customer of one of these businesses and you believe that your health has been affected during a visit, you can report it to us.
