Come along to the library and celebrate Whangārei's cultural diversity at Multicultural Day.

Join us to honour and appreciate the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our community. Wear your traditional attire or something that reflects your cultural heritage. Let's come together to share stories, traditions and the spirit of unity.

Performances Timetable


Start times are approximate: 

  • 10:00am: Sri Lankan Dances

  • Performed by Maneesha Fitness and Dance Studio. Maneesha is originally from Sri Lanka and teaches a fitness and dance class. Two dances will be performed:
    - Mayura Wannama / Peacock Dance - A creative Kandyan dance performed by Jenuli Kihansa and Sadinsa Kuruppu.
    - Giri Devi  - Traditional Low country dance performed by Maneesha De Silva.

  • 10:15am: Line Dancing

  • Performed by 4FM Line Dance Group. 4F=Fun, Fitness, Friendship and Footwork and M=Music. Weekly line dancing classes are held in Kamo, Ruakaka and Hukurenui.

  • 10:40am: Traditional Ethiopian Dance

  • Performed by Amanda and Grace, daughters of Eden Getu, who is originally from Ethiopia.

  • 10:55am: Middle Eastern Dance

  • Performed by NUR Dance led by Eva Corne, originally from Indonesia, who teaches Middle Eastern Dance, mostly from Egypt.
