14-21 o Hepetema 2024 | 14-21 September 2024
The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is ‘Ake ake ake – A Forever Language’. It represents the resilience, adaptability and endurance of our language. It also reflects the commitment New Zealanders have to embrace and learn te reo Māori long into the future.
Come along to Whangārei Central Library and join in the Māori Language Week celebrations.

Te Reo Māori Competition
Go the Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori table set up at the base of the library's front stairs
Say a very basic mihi and add to it, e.g:
Kia ora,
Ko .................... tōku ingoa
No .................... ahau
* Kia pai tau rā
After your mihi, fill out an entry form to go into the draw for a potae (a cap).
One prize draw at the end of each of the 3 days.
One entry per person.

Play and learn te reo Māori
There are activities for learning Māori language in Te Puawānanga, on the first floor of the library:
- Join in completing a large te reo Māori jigsaw puzzle.
- New te reo Māori jigsaw puzzles for children to borrow.
- Play te reo Māori card games.
