Meet the Dragons
What you do
For each challenge you complete, you will earn a Dragon card.
Challenges can be completed multiple times, i.e. you may do multiple bush walks over the summer.
To collect a dragon card, visit any branch of Whangarei District Libraries and bring proof of having done a challenge to show a librarian, e.g.:
A photo (can be on a device)
Artwork or story
Reading log.
There is no need to register, download challenges or send in completed challenge sheets by a certain date.
Just pick a challenge to do and start having fun.
You can start collecting Dragon cards on Wednesday 18 December 2024.
The Dragon Challenges
Once you have collected the full set, then you can play the Dragons card game.
Haven't been able to collect the full set? Then come along to the Dragon trading cards meetup on Thursday 23 January 2025, 10:00am at Whangārei Central Library.
The Dragons Game
It's a fun and easy game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages!
Here are the rules for playing your Dragon cards:
1. Shuffle and Deal
Shuffle the deck and deal the cards evenly among all players. Each player holds their cards face down in a stack.
2. Starting the Game
The player to the dealer's left goes first. They choose a category from the top card in their stack and read out its value (e.g., "Wisdom: 79").
3. Comparing Cards
The other players then read out the value of the same category from their top cards.
4. Winning the Round
The player with the highest value in the chosen category wins the round and collects all the top cards from the other players. These cards are placed at the bottom of their stack.
5. Next Round
The winner of the round starts the next round by choosing a category from their new top card.
6. Winning the Game
The game continues until one player has all the cards or a predetermined number of rounds is played. The player with the most cards at the end is the winner.
